How it works
🙂 Show up. Find clothes you love. Take them home for free. It’s that easy!
👕 Clothing donations are always welcomed but not required for participation.
🛍️ Also, donate your extra reusable shopping bags! We’ll have a stack by the door to leave your extras or grab a bag for shopping.
🕺🏽 The CommonSpot’s private offices will become changing rooms.
🎶 There will be live music and other fun-having.
💗 Items left over after the event will be sorted and donated to relevant community organizations such as the Women’s Opportunity Center, Rescue Mission, Hearts for the Homeless, and Ithaca ReUse Center.
Types of clothes
YES: Professional or casual, masc or fem, Spring or Summer, clothing accessories like purses and tie clips, and clean but wrinkled is totally fine.
NO: Musty, smelly, stained, or needing repair. Also, please hold onto your cold weather clothing until our Fall & Spring Clothing Swap.
How to donate clothes (not required)
Collect any Spring and Summer clothes that you no longer wear.
Exclude clothes that are stained or in disrepair. Wash clothes that are dirty or musty. Note: masculine clothing is especially appreciated as they are often lacking at clothing swaps.*
Bring your donations to The CommonSpot in advance or to the event:
Donations in advance are helpful for us and easy for you!
Stop by the CommonSpot any day or evening before the event and text (607) 323-7768 to access the space. Look for the “Clothing Donations” sign and drop your clothes there.Otherwise, just bring your donations to the Swap on Sunday, May 18th, and place your items in their designated areas (eg, pants, shorts, skirts, blouses, dress shirts, ties, T-shirts, jackets, shoes, accessories).
* Why are men and masculine clothing encouraged?
Clothing swaps typically lack masculine clothing and attract very few men, so we’re aiming for more balance by encouraging those typically underrepresented. This is central to the CommonSpot ethos. The CommonSpot is a coworking space founded on principles of equity and community building. To support those underrepresented in the business community, for example, we have hosted free meetups for women business owners, provided a free safe space for LGBTQ+ talking circles, and seeded the Business Leaders of Colors (BLOC) network in Ithaca.
The CommonSpot is a locally-owned and versatile coworking space. Whether you’re one person or part of a team in need of a meeting space or workspace for one day or long term, you can find your solution here! Enjoy business wifi and kitchen access with options for mail service, printing, office equipment, and ergonomic solutions. Got ideas? Let’s make stuff happen.
Visit The CommonSpot home page to learn more about our services or to book your space today.
Why swap? Because circulating our unwanted clothes reduces demand for new clothes. On average, Americans buy 5 times as many clothes compared to 50 years ago, and we collectively send 10 million tons of clothes to the landfill every year. Make clothing swaps your primary source for clothes, discover your new faves, and save money! The CommonSpot will host a Fall & Winter clothing swap in about 6 months, and there many more swaps scattered around town.
Why is it free? There are plenty of clothes to go around and The CommonSpot is committed to supporting our community through events like this. A cost for entry would undermine the purpose of the event. The best way to thank The CommonSpot is to spread the word about The CommonSpot services.
